Really happy to update the blog with some good news.
Essex Police visited the village late last month to carry out speed checks through Stanford Rivers.
PC Fenn of Essex Police Rural Engagement Team is responsible for Operation Proud which is an operation to prevent speeding in rural villages. PC Fenn visited the village on the 28th of October, carrying out speed checks and reported that he was
… surprised at how many motorists were speeding.
PC Fenn spoke with (and in some cases reported) drivers regarding their excess speed. This helps to send a clear message that speeding through the village will have consequences and that this type of driving will not be tolerated. It also means that the SpeederBot works, it has tangeable and effective results.
The SpeederBot doesn’t need sleep, to go to the loo, holidays, time with the family, or anything else to take it away from highlighting dangerous drivers through the village.
Remember that line from The Terminator?:
Listen, and understand. That terminator is out there. It can’t be bargained with. It can’t be reasoned with. It doesn’t feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop, ever…
Film: The Terminator
… well, that’s the SpeederBot, too. It won’t kill you, but it’s far more effective than a human being at spotting errant drivers.
The Rural Engagement Team will be back, sporadically, and without warning to make the village safer.
Thank you to PC Fenn and the Essex Police Rural Engagement Team. Progress is being made. Say thanks to these guys yourself on Twitter and on Facebook.
